We are happy to introduce VitruvianOS — an operating system built on Linux that brings the elegance and simplicity of BeOS to modern hardware.
Vitruvian is in active development. Nightly builds are already available for early adopters who want to follow progress. The system boots on modern x86-64 hardware, runs a real-time patched Linux kernel, and includes a working BeOS/Haiku API compatibility layer.
What works today:
- Boot from XFS and SquashFS with full extended attribute support
- Real-time patched kernel for low-latency desktop use
- BeOS/Haiku API compatibility layer
- Deskbar, Tracker, and core Vitruvian desktop components
We welcome testers, developers, and anyone curious about what a BeOS-inspired Linux desktop looks like today. Nightly builds are available on the Download page. To get involved or ask questions, join us on Telegram or open an issue on GitHub.
